In 2012 it is my aim to create a safe, comfortable and fun atmosphere within the Berwick Lodge Primary School Library. A library should be a space to be enjoyed by everybody – whether it be reading a novel, learning a new skill from a book, drawing a picture from a folktale or creating a piece of artwork inspired by a story.
The students at Berwick Lodge Primary School are encouraged to borrow books from anywhere within the library. Some children may be interested in fantasy, science fiction, adventure and mystery whilst others may prefer to learn about transport, animals, countries and UFOs. As long as they are enjoying the magical experience of reading, it should not matter what type of book each child gravitates towards (provided it is appropriate).
We are very lucky this year to be adding some popular titles to our collection: ‘Eragon’ series, ‘Animal Rescue’ series, Last Dragon Chronicles’ series, ‘Trylle’ series, ‘EJ 12′ series, ‘My Royal Story’ series, Star Wars books, ‘My Australian Story’ series, ‘Boy vs Beast’ series, ‘Conspiracy 365′ series and many more. There are also new picture fiction books by authors such as: Lauren Child, Juliette maclver, Lucy Davey, David Horvath, Martin Handford and Chris Kennett.
This year the students in Grade 1 to Grade 6 are able to borrow two books and keep these for a two week period. The Prep students are able to borrow one book for a two week period. It is asked that the books be returned upon completion so that new books can be selected. Books can be returned in the return slot anytime during the week.
Students are encouraged to borrow books over the school holidays also. During the colder months it is always fun to stay in bed curled up underneath your doona reading a good book!
Our wonderful new library will be open during the second half of lunch time on a Friday for the children to visit also. They can come in and read a book; learn to draw Mr Men character’s; make Lego creations using Lego instruction books; discover interesting facts about fossils, insects and reptiles using magnifying glasses; borrow new books and involve themselves in the many activities on offer in the school’s library.

Hi I am Abbey, I am from 4R and I just love coming to library.
I like library because we get to have fun and create things and learn about things from books.
When I get into grade 6 I really want to be a Library Captain for Miss Vine.
Hi, my name is Henna and I love coming to the Library. It’s filled with books always (of course) and I like sitting on the floor (or at the table) listening to Miss Vine reading books.
Hi I’m Phoebe from 5T, I think that library is even better than last year. I love library because I love to read. I can’t wait to dress up for the book day.
Hi I am Jordie and I am in 6P,
I enjoy Library because there are plenty of different books.
My favourite book at the moment is Judy Moody. I love all of her books.
I have missed Miss.Vine in Library, I hope she comes back soon.
